As we prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July -- our Independence Day -- it is important to remember those who
signed and approved the Declaration of Independence, a revolutionary idea “…that all men are created equal, that they
are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of
It is also important to remember and honor those who have died over the centuries to protect our freedom as well as
those who are fighting and dying for us today, for a republic whose freedoms have become the very envy of the world.
John Adams suggested that the day ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade. For the past 233 years,
Independence Day has been celebrated with great enthusiasm by Americans both at home and abroad, complete with
parades and ever growing displays of fireworks.
Many Americans proudly display our colors and participate in celebrations on the 4th of July. What an honor it
would be to the Second Continental Congress and those signers of the Declaration of Independence if every American
would choose to often fly our flag and demonstrate patriotism at every opportunity instead of one day each year.
