| In December of 2001 a proposed plan was presented to Clarksville by Gary Harmon Design Group. This plan was the result of meetings and discussions with a number of persons from Clarksville and the surrounding area and a financial contribution to fund the preparation of the proposal. At the conclusion of the proposal, Mr. Harmon wrote: “This proposal is an assembly of ideas and experiences from many places and people, but mostly it was inspired by the people of Clarksville. Please use this document as it is intended…as an idea and enthusiasm generator.” The River Front Park Advisory Committee has done exactly that. They have included each idea present in the proposal and taken some suggestions several steps further. In addressing the River’s Edge the committee decided to build terracing steps to provide all persons the opportunity to “touch the water”. The playground upgrade includes larger space and ADA compliance. The plan for and desire to have large boat mooring never wavered. Instead, the committee searched for answers as to how to accommodate large and small boat mooring, how to address courtesy small boat mooring, new trees and plantings, new pedestrian park entrance, a walking path throughout the park, appropriate signs for direction and interpretation and upgrades in existing buildings and more. |
