Bent Willow Chair Workshop Artist/Instructor: John Whitt John began building rustic furniture in 1982. With his background in education, classes are always well-taught and entertaining. He has a successful business in downtown Clarksville, Missouri where he displays and sells his work. Course Description: During this 2-day workshop, students will make a beautiful and comfortable bent willow fanback chair. They will also learn the history of rustic willow furniture, learn the location, recognition and harvesting of willow, and design and construction techniques. All levels of experience are welcome. Antler Basket Students will create a medium-sized basket with a deer antler handle, a reed and sea grass body and use other natural materials for accents. Egg Basket This medium-sized basket, which was historically used for gathering eggs, uses oak, red and other natural materials in its construction. Gourd Embellishment Workshop Artist/Instructor: Marcia Whitt A basket maker and fiber artist for over 25 years, Marcia finds satisfaction in weaving natural materials into her creations. She has taught classes in Missouri, Iowa and Wisconsin. Her work is available at the family business, The Bent Tree Gallery, in downtown Clarksville. Course Description: Students will stain a precut and cleaned gourd with choice of colors and then add coils of natural fiber. Personalize your creation with provided beads, feathers, arrowheads, etc., or bring your own embellishments.

First a potter, which runs in the family, then a stained glass artist, her interests have evolved to include jewelry making, fused glass, mosaic. Course Description: In this class, you will learn the basic tools, terminology and techniques of beaded jewelry creation. Students will create and take home a bracelet and one pair of earrings of their own making from high quality components, and will have the knowledge to go on and purchase commercial findings and create jewelry themselves. All projects (your choice of one glass plate or two pendants) will be created and assembled for fusing during class. RUSTIC BENT WILLOW CHAIR Sat-Sun class; $250.00; 2 students minimum Build your very own willow chair like our best-selling #1010 chair. Class runs from 9-5 on Sat., and 9 until completion of your chair on Sun. Field trip to view willow patch included. EGG BASKET 4-hr. class; $50.00; 3 students minimum Students will create an 8” egg basket with oak or ash and reed. Emphasis on shaping and weaving techniques. Basket may be left natural, stained, or painted. Nice size for decorating or for practical use. ANTLER BASKET 4-hr. class; $60.00; 3 students minimum Students will weave a rib-style basket with deer antler handle. Sizes and shapes will vary. Emphasis on shaping and weaving techniques. Variety of natural materials provided for use and experimentation. CONTEMPORARY NATURAL WALL BASKET 3-hr class; $40.00; 4 students minimum Students will make an ice-cream-cone-shaped basket to hang on the wall, using grapevines, willows, and an assortment of natural materials. Finished size approx. 5” diam x 34” long, or any size that pleases. GOURD EMBELLISHMENT 3-4 hr class; $55.00; 3 students minimum Students will begin with a cleaned gourd 6-8” diameter, then dye or paint with their choice of colors. Natural materials will be stitched around the top, and more materials applied as a focal point. (Wear your painting clothes.) FELTED HANDBAG 4-hr class; $60.00; 3 students minimum Using your choice of my many felted sweaters, students will create their own medium to large handbag. Add pockets, handle, or shoulder strap to this very personal and artistic item! NEEDLE FELTED SCARF 2-hr class; $35.00; 4 students minimum Bring a wool or other winter neck scarf, and experience the wonderful world of needlefelting! Using a variety of colorful wool roving and the special needle which you may keep, create a one-of-a-kind art scarf. Flowers, words, or abstract…you get to be the designer! NEEDLE FELTED PINS 1-2 hr class; $15.00; 4 students minimum Using felt base and colorful wool roving, create one or more pins, brooches, or hair clips. Students will ‘paint’ with wool onto the small felt ‘canvas’. It’s easy and fun! CHIFFON FLOWER PINS 1-2 hr class; $15.00; 4 students minimum Students will create their own light and airy flower pins or hair clips with this fun and easy technique. All tools and materials will be provided, but you may wish to bring some of your own tools. Be sure to wear appropriate clothes for the class you will take; some of our classes can be messy.
